Court Reporter Schools in California
Becoming a Court Reporter in CA
California is an exciting place to live and work as a court reporter. The highest paid court reporters in the nation work in California, which is home to two of the nation’s five highest-paying metropolitan areas for the profession. Those metro areas are the Oakland-Fremont-Hayward metro area and the Santa Rosa-Petaluma metro area. California does, however, have strict regulations for its court reporters. All court reporters must take a state examination and pay a fee to become a Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR). This license must be renewed each year with a fee. You must always notify the Board of any change of address, and fingerprinting is required for licensure. Continuing education is not required, but the Court Reporters Board of California has long advocated for it. Court reporters in California network through the California Court Reporters Association. This association also provides a list of court reporter schools on their website where beginners can learn the profession.
