Becoming a Court Reporter in GA

Not only are there a variety of work opportunities with court reporting agencies, attorneys and court systems, but there are also plenty of higher education options to get prepared for this career. Many employers will not consider candidates who do not have a certificate or associate degree in court reporting from an accredited court reporter school. Court reporters in Georgia must be licensed through the Board of Court Reporting of the Judicial Council of Georgia. They must also recertify themselves each year after earning continuing education credits. The Board regulates the court reporting profession in the state of Georgia and requires that all court reporters pass an examination to hold the qualification of Certified Court Reporter. Newly certified court reporters must also attend a seminar called LEAP (Learning Essentials About Professionalism), which was set up to educate court reporters on the dynamics of their jobs.
