Becoming a Court Reporter in MA

Massachusetts is known for the high quality of its higher education, and that bodes well for those who wish to train for court reporting careers in this New England commonwealth. One of the best qualifications you can have in Massachusetts is a certificate or associate degree from an accredited court reporter school. Massachusetts does not have any firmly established state certification requirements for its court reporters, but employers will generally seek or prefer candidates with postsecondary preparation in court reporting and certification through the National Association of Court Reporters. You will, however, need to become a notary public to be a court reporter here. Verbatim shorthand or stenographic court reporters in Massachusetts network through the Massachusetts Court Reporters Association. Those who do court reporting using voice writing or digital recording, however, are not eligible for membership in this professional organization.
