Court Reporter Schools in Texas

Becoming a Court Reporter in TX

Court reporting is a large profession in Texas, and the state’s court reporters are compensated well for their work. In fact, three metropolitan areas with the highest concentrations of court reporters in the nation are in Texas—the El Paso metro area, the Corpus Christi metro area and the Beaumont-Port Arthur metro area. Getting started in the profession begins with completing a program offered by an accredited court reporter school. Large cities such as Dallas and Houston have the most options for court reporting schools. Next, you must obtain state licensure by the Texas Supreme Court to legally work as a court reporter in Texas. The Court Reporters Certification Board governs the profession in Texas, but the Texas Court Reporters Association administers the examination, which tests your skills. Passing this exam qualifies you as a Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR). When you start looking for a job, the Texas Court Reporters Association is a helpful resource, as it provides a job board.
